Does the Ganzfeld effect work with a standard blindfold or eye-cover?

I've been studying the Ganzfeld effect, and all the sources say using halved ping-pong balls are standard. I want to know if using a blindfold would produce similar or identical effects, in addition to white noise and a uniform field of color.
